REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - February 25, 2010) - Attributor, provider of the world's first Web-wide monitoring and enforcement platform, announced today that HarperCollins and Harvard Business School Publishing have each selected Attributor's FairShare Guardian Service to find and remove pirated copies of their books and journals across the Internet.
Attributor's solution, first introduced in July of 2009, provides publishers with unprecedented 24/7 piracy protection by monitoring more than 35 billion pages, including hosting sites, cyberlockers and link farms, continuously scanning for copies of original works. Once a potential infringing copy is found, the content is verified before takedown notifications are sent and verified.
These new customers come on the heels of Attributor's recent Book Anti-Piracy Research, which found more than nine million illegal downloads of the 913 book titles included in the study. The research found that nearly 10,000 copies of every book published are downloaded for free, representing potential losses of $3 billion to the book publishing industry or 10 percent of the total U.S. book sales. The full report can be found online here.
"We're honored to work with this group of leaders and provide them with a state-of-the-art piracy solution," said Jim Pitkow, CEO of Attributor. "FairShare Guardian protects publishers' top-line revenue and enables them to regain control over how and where their books and journals are distributed."
"Switching to FairShare Guardian has enabled us to increase the effectiveness of our anti-piracy efforts," said Roy Kaufman, legal director of Wiley Blackwell and one of Attributor's first book publisher customers. "The Attributor team understands the complex issues surrounding piracy, and offers a variety of practical, real-world solutions."
Attributor now represents many of the world's largest publishing companies, including Macmillan, Hachette Book Group and John Wiley & Sons. Attributor was also recently named to Outsell's 30 to Watch list for 2010 as a company that will have an important impact on the publishing- and information-provider industries.
