COLUMBUS, OH--(Marketwire - March 16, 2010) - Sterling Commerce®, an AT&T Inc (
"Shippers and carriers continue to seek new ways to decrease the time and effort involved in handling shipping requests," said Cory Wiegert, vice president, Applications Product Line, at Sterling Commerce. "Extending the reach of Sterling TMS to iPhone will enable these companies to interact at a new level and reap the rewards of increased collaboration."
Several customers are already working with Sterling TMS Carrier Mobile, including Allen Lund Company Inc. and Chemlogix LLC, through the Sterling Commerce "Collaborate to Innovate" program. Under this program, Sterling Commerce is working with customers to define their mobile needs, most valuable use cases and enterprise mobile strategies as part of its mobile applications development. To date, the company has introduced six mobile applications.
"We see significant potential in offering these applications to our customers to help them improve service to their customers," said Mike Skinner, vice president, Chemlogix LLC, the leading provider of comprehensive chemical industry logistics management and technology services. "Sterling TMS Carrier Mobile provides complete visibility from pickup to delivery from their carriers, enabling shippers to improve visibility into in-transit inventory, resulting in lower safety stocks and better available-to-promise capabilities when capturing orders from customers."
"Embracing mobility will allow us to work on the move, providing new opportunities to enhance customer service," said Ryan B. Laulainen, transportation broker at Allen Lund Company Inc., a national third party transportation broker in the areas of dry, refrigerated (specializing in produce), and flatbed freight. "In testing, we found this application can be very helpful in replying to tenders on the road, enabling us to respond before tenders expire, because certain customers only give us an hour to respond."
Sterling TMS Carrier Mobile helps carriers and shippers gain improved speed and accuracy of shipment status updates, enhanced business performance and improved service levels. For carriers, Sterling TMS Carrier Mobile provides the opportunity to win more business by responding to time-sensitive tender requests when away from a computer. It also enables carriers to increase shipper satisfaction by enhancing communication through real-time shipment status updates. Shippers also benefit by being able to plan more effectively based on the carriers' more frequent updates, especially for long-haul shipments.
Sterling TMS, part of the Sterling Selling and Fulfillment Suite, enables efficient planning and execution of both inbound and outbound transportation processes. The core strengths of Sterling TMS are shipment visibility, proactive notification on potential customer service issues, robust cost and service reporting, and better control over the freight management process.
The Sterling TMS Carrier Mobile App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone or at www.itunes.com/appstore.
Along with Sterling Order Management Administrator Mobile, Sterling TMS Carrier Mobile rounds out the first set of six Sterling Commerce mobility applications in the market. Information on all of the company's mobile applications can be found at http://www.sterlingcommerce.com/products/mobility.
