MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 5, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Geeknet, Inc. (Nasdaq:LNUX) the online network for the global geek community, today announced that Matt Sweeney has joined the company as Chief Revenue Officer, effective immediately.

Matt has more than 20 years of experience building and directing sales teams and operations within startups and growth companies. He joins Geeknet from Ziff Davis Enterprise (ZDE), where he was President, Sales and Marketing. During his time there, he successfully restructured the sales organization, consistently grew revenue and led efforts to reposition the company as a media and marketing services organization. Before joining ZDE, Matt was President and Chief Executive Officer of Computerworld and InfoWorld for IDG. During his time at IDG, he was an advocate of continual innovation, which included the launch of the digital marketing sites ITWorld.com, ITWhitepapers.com and ITNews.com. In addition, he spearheaded IDG's first efforts in the Ad Network space. Prior to assuming the CEO role, Matt served as Executive Vice President/Publisher and Vice President/Associate Publisher.
Prior to IDG, Matt launched CIO Insight Magazine for Ziff Davis Media as National Associate Publisher, and managed more than $30M in print and online sales for PC Magazine, the largest computer publication in the world. Before Ziff Davis, Matt held positions at a variety of Internet and media companies including RealNames, Idealab!, Mac Publishing, Fairchild Publications and Meredith Corporation. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing from Merrimack College.
