E & E Celebrates 40 Years of Providing Solutions to the World's Complex Environmental Challenges

Company Anniversary Falls in Concert with 40th Anniversary of Earth Day

LANCASTER, N.Y., April 13, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ecology and Environment, Inc. (E & E) (Nasdaq:EEI) today announced the celebration of its 40th anniversary. The company, which delivers solutions to complex environmental challenges, was established by founders Gerhard Neumaier, Frank Silvestro, Ron Frank and Gerry Strobel in western New York on April 13, 1970, nine days ahead of the first Earth Day celebration on April 22, 1970.

"What began as a modest four-person operation above a carpet store on Union Road, has since grown to become a successful global entity addressing the world's most pressing environmental challenges," said E & E president and CEO Kevin Neumaier. "The company's integral role in historic issues like Love Canal and the Alaskan pipeline development has carried through to today, in projects from habitat restoration in the Everglades and Great Lakes; to the restoration and sustainable use of U.S. military facilities; to advising on energy, water, air, waste, and sustainability issues around the globe."

In its forty-year history, the company has been awarded more than a billion dollars of work from the United States Environmental Protection Agency.  Projects in which E & E has recently become involved include:  conducting biological surveys and siting analyses for nearly 250 wind projects; advancing new solar power projects as well as pipeline and electric transmission corridors; and implementing environmental restoration projects in the Middle East.

"E & E built its current headquarters in Lancaster, New York in 1987 before there were 'green buildings,'" Neumaier added. "It is one of the longest running green office buildings and the world's oldest existing LEED Platinum building. From some of the early environmental assessments to some of the world's most important projects, E & E puts great science to work to make our environment better."

Headquartered in Lancaster, New York, Ecology and Environment, Inc. has completed more than 45,000 projects for a wide variety of clients in 84 countries, providing environmental solutions in nearly every ecosystem on our planet. The company is listed on the NASDAQ under the symbol EEI and is located on the web at www.ene.com.
