Coventor to Provide Overview of "MEMS for the Mainstream" Strategy at Globalpress Electronics Summit

CEO of MEMS Design Tool Leader to Discuss Solutions for Integrating MEMS as Part of Traditional IC Design Methodology in Consumer Electronics

CARY, NC--(Marketwire - April 19, 2010) -  Coventor, Inc., (www.coventor.com) the leading supplier of solutions for developing micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), will discuss its strategy for integrating MEMS-based design approaches with traditional IC design flows at the upcoming Globalpress Electronics Summit, April 27 in Santa Cruz, California. Coventor president and CEO Mike Jamiolkowski will be part of a panel discussion entitled "MEMS is Hot" that will include leading MEMS device and infrastructure suppliers such as Analog Devices, Applied Materials, Bosch Sensortec and Kionix. MEMS Industry Group, the trade association representing the MEMS industry, collaborated with Globalpress to bring this elite panel together.

The panel session is scheduled for Tuesday, April 27 at 9AM PDT. It will be moderated by Stephen Ohr, Research Director of Analog Semiconductors at the Gartner Group. The panel will look at how MEMS can fuel growth in electronics in the post-recession economy, particularly in consumer products. Market researcher Yole Développement forecasts that MEMS growth will outpace that of the overall semiconductor market and reach $13 billion in revenues by 2012.

"This is an ideal venue with a global audience of electronics industry influencers to outline our strategy for expanding the use of MEMS," said Jamiolkowski. "MEMS have long been thought of as a very specialized area of electronics, with development limited to just a small group of expert companies and tightly controlled infrastructure. Our goal is to 'democratize' MEMS and make MEMS-enabled product ubiquitous. We do that by bridging the gap between the world of MEMS experts -- where we have established a proven track record -- and traditional IC designers who increasingly need MEMS-enabled capabilities in their products."

Coventor's strategy is based on reducing the cost, risk and expertise required to develop MEMS-enabled products, which typically require deep mechanical design expertise, specialized manufacturing processes, and MEMS-specific design tools. The company's solution revolves around its MEMS+™ product line, a full featured MEMS design platform that is specifically designed to integrate with traditional analog and mixed-signal IC design methodologies and tools, and shield designers from the complexity of MEMS design. MEMS+ provides a standard methodology for modeling MEMS devices and simulating them together with control electronics within industry-standard simulation environments. The first version of its MEMS+ product, introduced last year, features tight integration with the Virtuoso™ design system from Cadence Design Systems, to provide a seamless co-design and optimization platform.

Coventor is also actively working with other key suppliers in the IC design ecosystem, such as EDA suppliers and foundries, to develop an infrastructure more conducive to MEMS development and implementation for fabless and IDMs that are not familiar or lack expertise with MEMS.

The Globalpress Electronics Summit is an annual event that brings electronics industry press and analysts together with leading suppliers of semiconductor and electronics related technologies. It offers an interactive forum for key influencers from around the world to engage with executives from top-tier technology suppliers.
