The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Grants a Notice of Allowance to Cyalume Technologies, Inc. for IMPACT(R) Lightsticks

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 21, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) has issued a Notice of Allowance to Cyalume Technologies, Inc. for IMPACT® lightsticks. The U.S. patent number will be issued per normal U.S. PTO procedures. The international patent is pending.

The IMPACT® lightstick, the only one of its kind, activates on impact providing 360o of instant illumination. Similar to a flash bang used by law enforcement officials, the IMPACT® lightstick can be used as a stunning device during night-time operations. The new patent covers the IMPACT® lightstick's unique ability to activate on impact while providing superior performance in cold and warm climates.

IMPACT® lightsticks are ideal for confined space lighting, building searches, and hazard markers. This lightstick can be used in wet or dry weather and provides the most visible light in low-light or dark situations. Unlike pyrotechnic flash bangs that can start a fire, IMPACT® lightsticks will not produce heat or flames. They provide up to 12 hours of visible and non-visible (infrared) light that can be seen up to one mile. IMPACT® lightsticks are phthalate-free, non-hazardous, non-toxic, non-flammable, and are safe to use near gas or oil, or any combustible materials.

"This patent further expands our chemical light intellectual property portfolio and offers additional validation of the strength and extent of Cyalume's IP," said Derek Dunaway, President, and CEO of Cyalume Technologies. "We believe that this patent is especially important as it extends the coverage of our non-hazardous chemiluminescent light technology which is at the core of our product portfolio."

The award of the IMPACT® lightstick adds to the portfolio of over 100 patents awarded to Cyalume Technologies, Inc. in its 30+ years of pioneering chemical light technology. Cyalume currently holds 23 active U.S. and international patents, and has 26 patents pending in the chemical light industry.
