Sensors Expo & Conference Pre-Conference Symposia to Feature Leading Authorities on Sensing Technology & Solutions

In-Depth Pre-Conference Program to Be Held on Monday, June 7, 2010 in Rosemont, IL

NEWTON, MA--(Marketwire - May 13, 2010) -  Prior to the opening of the 2010 Sensors Expo & Conference, will be the pre-conference symposium, taking place on Monday, June 7th at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. Attendees to the pre-conference symposia will have four in-depth, day-long sessions to choose from, each providing a deep dive into the following technology areas: data acquisition systems, sensor networking, energy harvesting and storage, and MEMS-based system solutions.

"This year's attendees will take a deep dive into the hottest and most mission-critical sensing technologies and applications," said Tom Bliss, Conference Director for Questex Media Group, producers of the event. "We are thrilled to have some of the leading experts in these fields to deliver intensive, full-day technical programs to help attendees select and implement the right sensing solutions."

Details of the four pre-conference symposia:

  • Data Acquisition Systems: Dan Shangraw, P.E., President, Automated Software Technology will lead this course focusing on the basics of data acquisition and offer an in depth overview of data acquisition theory as well as explain how to connect various sensors to a PC-based data acquisition system. The course will also focus on Minimizing Noise in Data Acquisition Systems.

  • The Realities of Satellite and Cellular for Sensor Networking: Joel Young, CTO and SVP of Research and Development, Digi International will discuss the recent innovations in satellite technology and why cost -- both hardware and service plan -- is no longer prohibitive. This symposium will teach how to combine cellular and satellite that allow end users to switch easily from one technology to another. Young will examine how the proliferation of satellite and solutions that combine satellite with cellular is enabling a whole new world of "anywhere connectivity" ideal for numerous sensor networking applications.

  • Power Management: Energy Harvesting & Storage: Randy Frank, President, Randy Frank & Associates, Ltd will lead this session on energy harvesting, which provides new opportunities for sensor manufacturers in applications that would otherwise have difficulty obtaining a reliable power source or require batteries and the associated replacement effort and costs. In addition to exploring the various energy harvesting technologies, other system aspects that will be addressed in this full-day symposium include high efficiency, low-power microcontrollers, wireless connectivity and advanced batteries.

  • Think Outside the Chip: MEMS-Based System Solutions: Roger H. Grace, President, Roger Grace Associates will present this all-day symposium addressing, from a global perspective, current and future applications and major issues associated with the creation of a MEMS-based system and its design and manufacturing/testing. The focus is on the system elements which compliment the MEMS sensor/actuator e.g. signal conditioning circuits, microcontrollers, embedded intelligence/software algorithms, networking circuits and their interaction with the MEMS device. Technical staffers from major manufacturers and exciting new startups present information on their technology approaches to systems solutions for current and future applications. A panel discussion concludes the event.

The Sensors Conference will continue on Tuesday, June 8 and Wednesday, June 9 offering over 40 technical sessions and 8 educational tracks on Bio-Sensing, Energy Harvesting, Power/Smart Grid Monitoring & Control, Low Power Sensing, Wireless Networking, MEMS and MCUs, Novel Approaches to Measurement, and Monitoring Tools & Applications. In addition to the Conference Program, the event brings together the largest showcase of Sensor and Sensor-Integrated Systems on the Expo floor. Exhibitors include Silver Sponsor EPSON TOYOCOM, as well as Electrovac, IKONICS Imaging Industrial Solutions, Interplex Engineered Products, Inc., Micronas GmbH, Senseor, X-FAB Semiconductor Foundries AG, MicroStrain, GE Sensing and many others.

Sensors Expo & Conference will take place at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, 5555 N. River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018. Pre-Conference Symposia will take place on Monday, June 7th from 9 am - 5 pm, with the Conference and Expo Hall continuing on Tuesday, June 8 and Wednesday, June 9. Sensors Expo will be co-located with ESC Chicago and attendees will have access to both show floors and keynote presentations. For more information, visit http://esc-chicago.techinsightsevents.com/.
