TECHNOPOLIS PRESS RELEASE MAY 18, 2010 AT 13:00 PATIENT HOTEL TO OPEN ON FINNMEDI, TAMPERE LIFE SCIENCES CAMPUS IN 2011 Technopolis Finnmedi is a new campus specializing in healthcare technology and life sciences services in Tampere. On Tuesday, May 18, Technopolis and Norlandia Care Oy have signed an agreement on the construction of a patient hotel at the Finnmedi campus. Technopolis Finnmedi has three elements: a patient hotel, an office complex, and an oculist center. Technopolis Finnmedi will be built at an excellent location right next to the Tampere University Hospital, the Tampere University of Applied Sciences and the Tampere University. All three project phases will start simultaneously in May 2010. The life sciences campus is scheduled to be completed late in 2011. Technopolis Finnmedi will also include parking space for approximately 150 vehicles. Satu Eskelinen, Director of Technopolis Tampere, is satisfied with the deal:”The patient hotel is an exciting new direction for Technopolis. The hotel complements the services of the hospital area as well as creates significant synergies with the other companies operating on the campus. I'm extremely pleased with the fact that the people in Tampere have the courage to invest in this new type of business concept despite the current economic downswing,” says Eskelinen. Ole Ursin-Smith, a representative of the patient hotel tenant Norlandia Care Oy, is also enthusiastic about the potential of the new campus: “Our service concept is the first of its kind in Finland, and we are truly excited. Tampere is an excellent location for launching this new type of business, and the campus provides ample opportunities for innovative collaboration with new partners.” ”Extensive experience in the Nordic countries has shown that a patient hotel provides patients privacy, offers their next of kin an opportunity to stay close to their loved one, reduces the risk of hospital infections, and decreases travelling costs. The hotel environment is also more comfortable and relaxing than a hospital. Such an environment will help patients recover more quickly while allowing them to feel secure that the hospital is right next door. The patient hotel is an alternative to a more traditional hotel in the downtown area, and we guarantee that it will provide the same level of quality services,” Ursin-Smith says. Technopolis has more than 100 customer companies in Tampere as a whole. With the Finnmedi campus, Technopolis' total facility portfolio in Tampere will increase to more than 74,600 m2. The patient hotel project is estimated to cost approximately EUR 13.6 million. Once completed, it will cover nearly 7,000 m2. _____________________________________________________________________________ Technopolis Plc is a leading listed company specializing in business environments and services for knowledge-based companies.
