The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Deputy Administrator Ronald Medford will be in Kansas on Tuesday, August 10 to present Governor Mark Parkinson and the State of Kansas a check from the federal government for almost $11.2 million for passing a primary seat belt law during the 2010 Kansas Legislative Session.

The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) guaranteed funding for highways, highway safety, and public transportation, including a financial incentive for states to pass a primary seat belt law. Governor Parkinson signed Kansas' primary seat belt legislation, HB 2130, into law on May 27, 2010. The law requires that every occupant in a passenger car must wear a safety belt and allows law enforcement to stop a car for a violation of safety belt requirements by anyone in the front seat and by anyone under the age of 18.

Video of the event will also be available to media via a satellite feed. For more information, please see below.
