MAPLE GROVE, MN--(Marketwire - August 10, 2010) - TopLine Federal Credit Union financial experts were invited to lead personal money management training sessions at the 2010 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MNSCU) Leadership Forum, held in June at the North Hennepin Community College campus in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
The forum, designed to help students grow personally and professionally in addition to being better campus student advocates, was an invitation-only event for current elected student association leadership at Minnesota community and technical colleges, as well as state universities. The 100 attendees represented outgoing MNSCU student leaders graduating with two-year degrees and headed into the job force, and those moving on to complete four-year degrees.
TopLine's session, "The Real World of Personal Money Management," helped students understand how to manage finances, including how to use credit wisely; what a credit score means, and how to build and maintain a good score; where to obtain a copy of a credit report and how to read it; budgeting tips; as well as strategies on how to reduce debt and prevent identity theft. And, importantly, students learned how their actions today can have an impact on future financial options.
"It's important for young people to have a good relationship with their money as they enter the work force, and this is a great focus -- student leaders," says Harry Carter, president and CEO, TopLine Federal Credit Union. "We are committed to improving everyone's financial literacy, especially children and young adults, which is why TopLine participates in many youth-targeted seminars."
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system comprises 32 state universities and community and technical colleges serving the higher education needs of Minnesota. The system serves about 260,000 students per year in credit-based courses and an additional 164,000 students in noncredit courses.
