AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - September 10, 2010) - IBC2010, Stand #4.B84 -- Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, today introduced a security client that supports playback of HTTP Live Streaming content on Android devices. Through a partnership with RealNetworks, ViewRight® Web for Android OS extends Real's new HTTP Live for Android with Verimatrix powered authentication and encryption.
The Verimatrix ViewRight Web client enables operators to extend state of the art, secure digital TV adaptive streaming services for live broadcast and video-on-demand (VOD) content to a new class of powerful Android powered mobile devices. The widely adopted HTTP Live Streaming protocol, natively implemented in iPhone, iPad and the new Apple TV family of devices, provides a common, effective and well-defined framework for multi-device and multi-network video delivery, enhanced by Verimatrix encryption and authentication support. This initial ViewRight Web - Helix DNA integrated solution is focused on devices running the Android OS, yet is the foundation of a highly portable solution that will provide support for premium HTTP Live Streaming services across other RealNetworks Helix DNA platforms, including, Symbian, Linux and Windows Mobile.
Verimatrix will be demonstrating the Android solution at IBC2010 in Hall 4, Stand B84.
"Real is excited to be first to enable Android smartphones, tablets and other CE devices to play content created for Apple iPhones and iPads with our HTTP Live for Android client technology," said Martin Schwarz, area vice president of mobile and consumer electronics devices, RealNetworks. "We are also pleased to be partnering with Verimatrix to extend their ViewRight Web platform with our new Android client technology so that consumers can enjoy premium, secure content on their Android multi-screen devices."
ViewRight Web for Android OS is part of the ViewRight Web product family for the Verimatrix Video Content Authority Solution (VCAS™) for Internet TV, including ViewRight Web for iPhone/iPad, ViewRight Web for PC, and ViewRight Web for STB. These technologies are components in the company's core end-to-end VCAS 3 security architecture, addressing the new video marketplace with a proactive revenue security and enhancement approach for IPTV, DVB broadcast, hybrid, and over-the-top (OTT) networks, including standards-based security for Internet TV delivery to PC, phone, tablet, and set-top boxes devices. Whatever network transition and evolution challenges are awaiting operators, VCAS 3 can help optimize operational costs, expand device footprint, and cast a wider net with their service offerings.
"We believe the emergence of HTTP Live Streaming is a major catalyst for the convergence of managed networks and OTT delivery, which represents significantly expanded revenue opportunities for operators," said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. "Our ViewRight Web for Android solution combined with Real's established leadership in the mobile space will have immediate impact on operators' services."
