ALEXANDRIA, VA--(Marketwire - September 15, 2010) - National PTA® is challenging men to become more involved in the education, health and well-being of children. Through the "Million Hours of Power" initiative, the association seeks to inspire 350,000 men to dedicate three hours of service this school year to the cause.
Though traditionally mothers have been the face of parent involvement, research proves that when both mother and father (or male role model) are involved, children's academic performance and life skills improve.
National PTA, in conjunction with its Men Organized to Raise Engagement (MORE) Alliance and National Fatherhood Leaders Group, created easy ways for men to become involved, including a tracking tool to log volunteer hours towards "Million Hours of Power." To advance the initiative, PTA has taken the call to action online by creating testimonial videos and connecting through social networks. The videos will roll out monthly. Recently, PTA's "Million Hours of Power" became a part of the Pepsi Refresh Project to secure a grant for nationwide promotion of male involvement.
