Naxos of America Announces Distribution of Steinway & Sons, Composers Concordance Records and Pipistrelle Music

FRANKLIN, TN--(Marketwire - October 18, 2010) - Naxos of America will be launching the distribution of two brand new labels, Steinway & Sons and Composers Concordance Records, with their inaugural releases. The number one independent distributor of classical music in the United States will also begin distribution of the young label Pipistrelle Music, which was founded in 2009.

The Steinway & Sons (http://www.steinway.com/) label will offer a fresh look at discographies from distinguished Steinway artists of the past and will be also be a venue for new recordings by the talented Steinway artists of today. The label's initial release, Bach on a Steinway, features pianist Jeffrey Biegel playing some of Bach's most enduring and challenging pieces on a Steinway Model D piano. The piano was chosen for the recording by Biegel because of its "warmth and wide dynamic range."

Pipistrelle Music (http://www.alisonmelville.com/pipistrelle.htm) was founded in 2009 by Canadian baroque flutist and recorder player Alison Melville. The label reflects Alison's own wide ranging musical interests -- baroque, renaissance, medieval, world and folk music -- in projects that combine some or all of these styles. Pipistrelle releases have been acclaimed in the press, and chosen as BBC Music Magazine's Disc of the Month. Since founding Pipistrelle, Alison Melville has been joined by other skilled and adventurous musicians, most notably in Ensemble Polaris whose repertoire is based (loosely) on folk music of the Nordic countries, plus their own brilliant arrangements and original compositions. All of these attributes are featured in their latest CD, Vikings on Vacation, a release that has all of the hallmarks of the Pipistrelle label: adventure, wonderful musicians, and a delight in creating music that is hard to label, but easy to enjoy.

Founded by the 26-year-old presenting organization of the same name, Composers Concordance Records' (http://composersconcordancerecords.com) main goal is to release recordings of 20th and 21st century composers/performers presented in an exciting format and recorded with an aesthetic of clarity and studio precision. CCR aims to present contemporary music in a thematically focused context on each release, combining works of music that create a whole album and complement each other. CCR's inaugural release is aptly named Ballets & Solos because it combines engaging, large, recently written contemporary pieces by composers such as Joseph Pehrson, Gene Pritsker and Dan Cooper, with smaller works for solo instruments by Otto Luening and Pat Hardish.
