Pohjola Insurance to Branch Out into Employee Wellbeing Services

Pohjola Insurance will branch out into employee wellbeing and wellness services in early 2011. For this purpose, it has established a subsidiary, Pohjola Health Ltd, to provide expert services related to the analysis, management and measurement of employee wellbeing and wellness.

- Pohjola Health will specialise in employee wellbeing and wellness services. The corporate sector has clearly identified the need for maintaining the working capacity and wellbeing of its employees. Our task is to ensure that employee wellbeing will become part of a company's strategy and management. Employee wellbeing should also be based on systematic efforts and be measured as a whole, not in terms of occasional measures, explains Veli-Matti Qvintus, Executive Vice President, New Businesses, Pohjola Insurance.

Pohjola Health will provide companies with an employee wellbeing analysis and monitoring service and a range of operating models and support for daily employee wellbeing management. Our team of experts in charge of customers' employee wellbeing development boasts diverse skills and experience in HR management, occupational healthcare, financial analyses and non-life and pension insurance.

- At present, employers understand that the maintenance of employee wellbeing also involves more than occupational healthcare and workplace physical activities. It requires effective management and leadership work and a commitment to creating a good organisational climate. Employers are willing to retain good employees, on the one hand, and to lengthen their careers, on the other hand.

- If a company's employees feel good both physically and mentally, this will be reflected in its profit performance and will pay for itself if such wellbeing efforts form part of the company's daily work, not involving only occasional measures. Less sick leave days bring cost-savings. In the long term, success in employee wellbeing efforts will also be reflected in reduced costs arising from disability pension and occupational accidents, says Qvintus.

- Pohjola already has much knowledge related to health, wellbeing/wellness and personnel risk management based on its personal insurance expertise. Companies have also wanted us to provide this type of comprehensive service, explains Qvintus.

With Veli-Matti Qvintus acting as its Managing Director, Pohjola Health Ltd will at first provide its services to companies with a staff of over 250 in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, Tampere and Turku. It will start operating at the beginning of 2011.
