EXFO Adds Full ODU0 and ODUflex Capabilities to Its Market-Leading Next-Generation 10G and 40G Transport Test Modules

Industry-Leading FTB/IQS-8130NGE and FTB/IQS-8140 Transport Blazer Modules Ready to Support Service Providers' Transition to Packet Optical Transport

QUEBEC CITY, Nov. 3, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO) (TSX:EXF) announced today the addition of full ODU0 and ODUflex capabilities to its next-generation 10G and 40G Transport Blazer test module series, a future-proof solution for packet optical transport.

To meet the challenge of delivering bandwidth-hungry value-added services, service providers continue to invest in next-generation networks with a focus on the transport of packet-based services that can scale to higher bandwidths, while reducing costs and improving efficiency with minimal waste of bandwidth capacity. The new OTN with ODU0 and ODUflex will be a key enabler for service providers to achieve those goals.

ODU0 provides the new mapping for the transport of 1 Gbit/s Ethernet signals with multiplexing capability up to 100 GB. ODU0 allows for OTN networks to be backward-compatible with industry installed base and is optimized for Gigabit Ethernet clients and transport of client signals with a rate below 1.238 Gbit/s.

In addition, the ODUflex capability brings significant benefits to operators, including higher efficiency for network configuration and bandwidth allocation, providing a future-proof solution for the transport of any client signal at any rate. It enables technology shared by network equipment manufacturers, service provider labs and field-testing crews, and is critical for deploying next-generation packet optical transport networks.

"Over the past few years, EXFO has been providing its customers with leading next-generation test solutions. Now, we are the first in the industry to offer next-generation transport testing with full ODU0 and ODUflex capabilities in a portable format," said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing. "This further validates our customer-centric approach in offering network operators and service providers a way to maximize revenues while minimizing costs."

The new ODU0 and ODUflex capabilities are available as a software option for all Transport Blazer OTN test modules, including the FTB-8120NG/NGE, FTB-8130NG/NGE and FTB-8140, making them the most complete optical transport network testers on the market today. In addition to the FTB portable form factor that is ideal for field testing, these functionalities are available in the IQS rackmount form factor (IQS-8120NG/NGE, IQS-8130NG/NGE and IQS-8140) for lab verification.
