Boston University School of Management and the New England Clean Energy Council Partner to Offer Clean Energy Executive Education Program

"Leading Clean Energy Ventures: Certificate Executive Education Program" Will Encourage New Venture Formation, Job Creation and Growth of the Clean Tech Cluster

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - November 4, 2010) -  Boston University School of Management's Executive Leadership Center (ELC) and the New England Clean Energy Council (the Council) announced their partnership to offer the Executive Certificate Program in Leading Clean Energy Ventures. The program addresses a simple but acute problem: a lack of repeat entrepreneurs and seasoned executives in the clean energy sector. The program aims to help experienced entrepreneurs and executives accelerate their transition into the clean energy sector, stimulating new venture formation, job creation and growth of the clean energy industry.

An evolution of the Council's signature Clean Energy Fellowship program, the Executive Certificate Program in Leading Clean Energy Ventures will be offered for the first time in February of 2011, and will combine seminars, lectures, case studies, lab visits, capstone and other business planning projects with applicable perspectives from the corporate world, university settings and U.S. Department of Energy labs. The program will feature leading BU faculty and industry partners and offer unique opportunities for participants to collaborate with leading venture capitalists and entrepreneurs from the Council's clean energy community.

"Providing a clean energy market, technology and strategic understanding to seasoned entrepreneurs and venture executives is critical to venture formation, funding and growth, and we crafted this program specifically to accelerate the transition of these experienced executives, investors and policy leaders into the sector," said Peter Rothstein, president of the Council and co-director of the program. "Our experience with the Fellowship Program demonstrated the viability of this kind of program, and our partnership with Boston University will significantly enhance our ability to improve and expand our efforts in this area."

"The School of Management's Executive Leadership Center prides itself on educational programs based on leading-edge emerging technologies and on real-world collaboration with leading business people as part of our instructional offering," said Paul McManus, Managing Director of BU's Institute for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization (ITEC) and co-director of the program. "Partnering with the Council in the Executive Certificate Program in Leading Clean Energy Ventures gives us another opportunity to work at the nexus of academia and entrepreneurship."
