WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - January 21, 2011) - Smartronix is proud to announce its support of the launch of the new EducationJobsFund.gov and FederalTransparency.gov web sites running on the new Recovery.gov Community Cloud which is based on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). The Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board (RATB) launched these two new web sites to track the new $10 billion Education Jobs Fund that supports school districts around the country.
"We are pleased to have helped the Recovery Board realize the benefits of moving to the public cloud by rapidly standing up two new web sites in support of new programs at a low incremental cost," stated Smartronix Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Robert Groat. "The Recovery Community Cloud is a multi-tenant solution designed to support current and future transparency mandates of the Recovery Board and Administration."
Under the Recovery Act, passed by Congress in February 2009, the Board manages Recovery.gov and monitors the $787 billion economic stimulus program. To ensure transparency and accountability, the Board decided to establish a separate website to track spending under the new Education Jobs Fund bill, which is not part of the Recovery Act. The original Recovery.gov contract was awarded to Smartronix in 2009 and the team consists of Smartronix, Synteractive, TMP Government, and KPMG, with close collaboration from Microsoft and AWS. Recovery.gov is the first government-wide system to move to the cloud.
"The Recovery Board continues to drive innovation in delivering transformational solutions leveraging industry best practices using the public cloud," stated Recovery Board Deputy Chief Information Officer Shawn Kingsberry. "When we made the business decision to move to the cloud we knew we would achieve greater flexibility. By leveraging a single Community Cloud to support our portfolio of websites we were able to deploy these new sites in record time with minimal incremental costs."
Smartronix designed the Recovery Community Cloud to allow the rapid addition of public facing sites that support the transparency, communications, publishing requirements, and strategic initiatives of the Recovery Board. The solution allows the new sites to incorporate all the features available on Recovery.gov including shared code, robust workflow and collaboration capabilities, citizen-friendly visualizations for easy tracking of spending information, powerful geo-spatial maps, a shared content delivery network, and a secure and scalable enterprise architecture.
The RATB has utilized the GSA Alliant vehicle to expedite the contractual process for executing the development of the Recovery Community Cloud as well as the continued operation and maintenance required under contract. Recovery.gov was the first Task Order issued under the highly successful GSA Alliant Contract.
