Making Weight Loss Possible for Everyone

Get Downsized to Host February 26th Informational Program to Offer Practical Tips for Losing Weight, Getting Fit and Staying Healthy!

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich., Feb. 14, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- It takes six weeks to change habits for good, so by the end of this month most people who pledged to lose weight, get in shape and otherwise get healthy in the new year will have long since blown off their resolutions.

That makes February 26th the perfect time for a get-serious, get-started information session for individuals who want to shed a massive amount of pounds.

Get Downsized, the local Biggest Loser initiative that has helped 24 metro Detroiters lose a collective total of 2,180 pounds and eradicate major health problems, is hosting Dream Bigger, Be Smaller, February 26th, 2-4 p.m. at Powerhouse Gym, (6750 Orchard Lake Road West Bloomfield, MI 48322, 248:539:3370).

"There's no one-size-fits-all program for losing weight and getting healthy," says Todd Coburn, Get Downsized co-founder and co-owner. "At our Feb. 26th event, we will offer an array of options for individuals to find the right path toward their own health pursuits. We want to work with everyone who wants our guidance, and make Michigan a haven for healthy, not obese, residents."

Like Mike Renda. One of the first Get Downsized participants, Renda refers to Todd and his co-owner Mandi Cobb as "personal life changers." The 22-year-old Dearborn-based actor dropped from 305 to 175 pounds and is completely off medication for Crohn's disease.

"You know you want to lose weight, but you need tools to do it," says Renda. "Get Downsized gave me tools and support – I'm a complete health freak now! Mindless eating is gone, and my Crohn's is in remission – that's unheard-of!" Renda will be one of a half-dozen speakers at the Feb. 26th event.

Get Downsized started as an extreme fitness approach to getting in shape, for people who wanted their butts kicked into health. This year, Coburn and Cobb have morphed the program so people can join in a variety of ways – offering an a la carte menu of programs that start at $400 and rise to$4,800 (with community sponsorships to minimize the financial burden and build support).

Weight loss is the focus, with chronic health conditions easing in the process, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Diabetes, arthritis and sleep apnea. Participants also learn life skills, make friends and try kickboxing, swimming, running, kettle bells, yoga, weights, spinning and more.

Get Downsized was created in 2009 and has been endorsed by the Governor's Council on Fitness, Health and Sports.
