HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - March 1, 2011) - Earth Sports' new social networking site is catching on in the college fishing community in a big way. The new website provides college fishing teams, including Louisiana State University, winner of the 2011 Bassmaster College Classic, with a place to join and gather online and share stories, photos, videos, events, blogs and more. Created by Houston-based W3 Media Group, the Earth Sports college community also includes:
- Team profiles with links to individual profiles;
- Convenient easy access to tournament results and standings;
- A community feed and blog section to update fans; and
- Original articles and videos that can help teams be more successful on the water.
"The popularity of college fishing has exploded in the past five years. New teams are forming every year," said Randy Bayne, founder and CEO of W3 Media Group. "In just a few short months, Earth Sports has already sponsored 15 college teams, and that number is still growing. College fishing is the future of our sport and we believe Earth Sports will be the catalyst to take it to the next level."
"There has been a lot of growth in the sport of college fishing over the past several years, and it continues to soar to new levels that many of us had never imagined," said Tyler Mehrl, president, University of Iowa Bass Fishing Team. "Earth Sports has become a big part of that growth, in that it provides teams and individuals with a great way to network with companies and promote their sponsors. Earth Sports has also become the perfect medium for fans and alumni to connect with the teams. Another exciting initiative is the new Earth Sports College Fishing Rankings, which is by far the most fair and complete ranking system there is."
To encourage even more fan participation, Earth Sports announced this month that it will donate $250 to every college team that gets more than 250 followers on its Earth Sports team page by March 31, 2011. The team that gets the most followers by this date will receive an additional donation of $1,000.
The prize isn't the only reason to sign up. Earth Sports members also benefit from 24/7 access to a powerful guide finder and audio reports as well as engaging daily original content with some of the best writers in the country.
Participating teams are from the following schools: Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Southern Illinois, University of Iowa, The University of North Alabama, The University of South Alabama, Clemson, Florida Gulf Coast, University of Georgia, Georgia Southern, Louisiana State University, Christopher Newport, Baylor, University of South Carolina, and Mizzou. Many more teams are welcome and expected to join the competition.
About Earth Sports
Earth Sports was developed by W3 Media Group and is a leading destination for outdoor communities, connecting people with their sport and the manufacturers, guides, tournaments, etc that support them. The site combines the attributes of a social network with content, entertainment and industry wide information. Users share, store and customize their profile page with information related to their category within the sport. The initial area of focus is on the fishing industry and breaks content down by zones (freshwater, coastal and offshore), fishing styles (wade, fly, boat, pier and jetti) and types of fish sought by our anglers. Users build their profile page researching and adding information from their fishing guide, area tournaments, manufacturers, rss feeds, weather data, and also have access to photo albums, video catalogs, blogs, forums and many social features for finding and sharing information with friends and fellow anglers.
