ATLANTA, March 24, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The eighth annual Yellow Jacket Invitational, March 25 and 26 at Georgia Tech, will draw about 600 track and field athletes from seven universities in the East and Southeast. A major attraction for the competitors is the opportunity to compete on the Mondo Super X Performance track at Georgia Tech's George C. Griffin Track & Field Facility.
Mondo installed the eight-lane, 400-meter Super X Performance track in 2007 on top of the facility's existing Mondo Classic track, which saved time and minimized costs for the school. The Mondo Classic track was installed in 1995 specifically for athletes training for the Olympic Games as the Georgia Tech campus prepared to be part of the 1996 Summer Olympics village.
Grover Hinsdale, Georgia Tech's men's track and field coach, said the university is exceptionally pleased with the track's performance. "Every square inch of the Mondo track provides consistent performance, for both training and competition, and that is a huge benefit," he said. "It produces great times in competitions, and our athletes have had virtually no foot, shin or knee issues. I can't imagine having any other surface at our facility. We feel that Mondo is the world's finest track surface."
Hinsdale also said that Mondo has lived up to every expectation and that Georgia Tech has been impressed with Mondo's customer service. "The company has always been very professional and attentive. Mondo says what it means and means what it says. They are great to work with."
Mondo Super X Performance has been installed at more than 1,100 venues globally. Recognized around the world as one of the fastest, most durable and environmentally safest tracks available, it was used in the eight Olympic Games prior to Beijing. (Mondo's newest track surface, Mondotrack, was the official track of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and will be the track of the 2012 London Olympics.)
Super X Performance was developed to maintain its initial physical properties throughout its life, so it provides consistent performance. The vulcanized natural rubber surface provides maximum elasticity and unparalleled durability, and its embossed, textured finish makes it extremely easy to maintain with no resurfacing required. This high-performance track is renowned for its shock absorption and optimal energy return, and its ideal blend of speed and comfort minimizes the occurrence of injuries during both training and high-level competition.
