CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - March 25, 2011) - Exalt Communications today announced the new addition of license-exempt 24 GHz models to its ExtremeAir™, ExploreAir®, and ExtendAir® microwave backhaul systems, providing enterprises and service providers with an interference-free alternative to 5 GHz systems and a longer range alternative to license-exempt 60 GHz systems. The new zero-footprint systems complement the otherwise equivalent Air Series systems available for 5 GHz operation.
The new Air Series systems offer ranges of up to 5 miles, which is up to five times farther than distances that can be achieved at 60 GHz. Also included are options for single Ethernet ports, multiple Ethernet ports, and hybrid Ethernet and native TDM operation, with up to 4xT1/E1 available. All models offer asymmetrical transmission to optimize spectral efficiency in applications such as video over IP and synchronization for maximizing collocation density.
- ExtendAir 24 GHz is designed to support access and campus point-to-point connections at distances of up to 5 miles at a Layer 2 throughput of up to 200 Mbps aggregate. It's the ideal Fast Ethernet system for environments with high levels of RF interference that may make 5 GHz deployment problematic.
- ExploreAir 24 GHz systems share the same 8 pound form factor as ExtendAir plus Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and adaptive modulation (ACM) with integrated QoS, delivering up to 470 Mbps Layer 2 throughput, making them an ideal alternative for backhauling 802.11n-based and other broadband access networks such as WiMAX.
- ExtremeAir 24 GHz is a dual-carrier system offering the same advanced feature set found in ExploreAir and doubling capacity to 940 Mbps aggregate. With the same 5-mile range as the other systems, ExtremeAir is a much more flexible alternative than 60 GHz for high capacity backbone and fiber replacement applications.
"Enterprises and WISPs who don't want to go through licensing need a variety of options for frequencies they can use to ensure interference-free operation of their microwave backhaul links," said Mark Davis, Sr. Director of Product Marketing, Exalt Communications. "These innovative 24 GHz systems offer a new license-exempt option for both Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet backhaul -- with the added flexibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness common to all Exalt systems."
The Exalt Microwave Backhaul Product Portfolio
All Exalt microwave backhaul systems -- indoor, outdoor, and split-mount -- offer guaranteed link availability, guaranteed throughput and low, constant latency. Systems are available in world bands from 2 to 43 GHz and in capacities from 10 Mbps to more than 1000 Mbps per channel, providing a range of options to fit countless network applications. Designed to enable a smooth transition to IP, they offer native support for both TDM and Ethernet, and are fully software configurable and upgradeable. For easy and secure management using third-party network management systems, Exalt systems support SNMP v1, v2c and v3. Data security is provided by available FIPs 197-compliant AES 128-bit and 256-bit encryption that adds zero latency to the transmission. To simplify installation and maintenance, all Exalt systems feature an embedded manual and most include a built-in spectrum analyzer.
