AJAX, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 1, 2011) - Volkswagen Canada reported sales of 4,536 for the month of March, a 6.2% improvement on last year's performance. Year-to-date, total sales of 10,634 represent a 13% increase over the same period last year.
Sales continue to be led by the all-new 2011 Jetta. The Jetta has been completely redesigned to offer customers increased size, improved performance and excellent fuel economy, all at a much lower starting price. In March, sales of 2,445 Jettas resulted in a 195% improvement over March 2010 figures.
Other Volkswagen models, including the Touareg sport utility, the Tiguan compact sport utility, and the Golf family, contributed greatly to the company's strong performance. Volkswagen's Canadian market share now stands at 3.2%.
Volkswagens equipped with TDI Clean Diesel engines once again played a significant role in the company's sales success. This award-winning technology is now available on the new Jetta, Golf and Golf Wagon, as well as on the new Touareg sport utility. It will soon be available on the new Passat mid-sized sedan, which will debut this summer.
