CHANDLER, Ariz., April 19, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The professional consulting and design firm recently contracted by eBay to design its Phoenix Mercury Data Center has published a case study, comparing a traditional healthcare data center design to one based on Elliptical Mobile Solutions' R.A.S.E.R. Micro-Modular Data Centers.
EDI Ltd., which specializes in building security, audiovisual systems, data center design and communications network technology also has extensive experience in building healthcare data centers.
Elliptical Mobile Solutions (EMS) asked the firm to create a healthcare data center design based on the R.A.S.E.R. platform and compare it to a "typical" healthcare data center they would design and build in the traditional way, according to Tony Cole, Vice President of North American Sales for EMS.
By providing a drop in place architecture, the study found the EMS Cabinet Solution saved time, space and money compared with a traditional design.
"The EMS Solution requires less paper work, planning, and engineering," said Rob Nash-Boulden, Vice President and Director of Data Center Operations, for EDI. "In addition, the EMS system in most municipalities will only require an electrical design and inspection which means less time to get started and less to worry about when completing the project. Finally, due to the operational efficiencies associated with the EMS Cabinet Solution, clients can realize additional savings on their operating costs once the solution is installed and operational."
While the case study specifically calls out the healthcare vertical market, the benefits associated with the RASER platform, which are communicated in the study, apply to most industries.
EMS is the only company in the world to build Micro-Modular Data Centers with onboard racks, security, cooling and fire suppression. The enclosures also feature patented adaptive suspension allowing them to be moved or relocated while populated with equipment.
"We were very pleased with the results of the study," said Cole. "It provides further validation that our technology can be used in the healthcare setting as well as many vertical markets such as banking, oil and gas, audiovisual, legal, energy/utilities and government."
