Can Evolutionism and Creationism Coexist?

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - May 27, 2011) - For most people, science and faith stand on opposite sides of the fence, but not for James Strickling.

"My point is that science and faith do not have to be mutually exclusive for those who value both," said Strickling, an engineer who also holds a degree in the study of science and philosophy, who has also authored the book "Man and His Planet" (www.jimstrickling.com). "I don't believe that scientists should try to use science to invalidate faith for those who believe, and neither should believers use faith to cancel out science. If you study both closely enough, you'll discover that there are elements of both that actually support the other. As to science in general, I believe that neither system of thought (science/religion) necessarily excludes the other, and when considered in that context, they actually could be used to help explain the other."

Strickling offered several examples of how scientific discovery and Biblical dogma can coexist:

• Changes in human physiology: To the woman God said I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Genesis 3:16.
  
  
• Changes in Earth's vegetation: The Earth will produce thorns and thistles. Genesis 3:18.
  
  
• No more casual foraging for sustenance: Through painful toil you will eat... By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food. Genesis 3:18 - 3:19.
  
  
• Climate changes necessitating warmer clothing: The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. Genesis 3:21.
  
  
• New mental horizons brought an end to man's innocence: The man [now knows] good and evil. Genesis 3:22.
  
  
• Changes in man's behavior, manifesting evil: Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Genesis 4:8

"We need to adopt a new world view to adequately understand the history of our planet," Strickling said. "My challenge to both evolutionary theory and Biblical Creationism is to demonstrate that it's possible to live in a world in that can ultimately come to accept faith and science as compatible concepts."
