MIAMI, June 8, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Florida Alternative Investment Association (FLAIA) recently participated in a Latin American focused panel discussion hosted by Markets Media (www.marketsmediaonline.com) in New York City. Rainford Knight, Ph.D., a FLAIA Board Member, spoke as part of a distinguished panel whose focus was the integration of exchanges and capital markets across the Latin American region.
Dr. Knight articulated the role that Florida continues to play as an important hub for increased Latin American capital flows and market liquidity. He discussed the natural cultural affinity that exists between Florida and Latin American investment managers and traders as well as the geographic advantages that Miami in particular offers market participants. In addition to discussing Florida's current role in the region, Dr. Knight outlined the potential for the development of a pan-Latin American exchange in Miami to further facilitate increased U.S. and European investments in Latin American securities, debt offerings, and non-traditional investment opportunities.
FLAIA is committed to reinforcing Florida's strategic and geographic advantages as the gateway to Latin American Finance by partnering with key industry content providers like Markets Media & the Connecticut Hedge Fund Association. FLAIA is in advanced discussions to bring the second annual "Latin American Trading and Investing Summit" to Florida in March 2012. Mohan Virdee, CEO of Markets Media stated "we very much enjoyed working with FLAIA on the inaugural Latin American Trading and Investing Summit to make the event an enormous success. Economic growth, exchange fragmentation and advancements in trading technology have given rise to a plethora of business opportunities and innovation. Florida is perfectly positioned to bring together companies from across the globe as they clamor for knowledge and access. We look forward to working with the FLAIA as they help establish South Florida as a liquidity hub."
