AMD and ViVu Join Forces to Bring Vivid, Next-Generation PC Video Experiences to Life

AMD Invests in ViVu; New Technology to Be Showcased at Upcoming AMD Fusion Developer Summit

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 9, 2011) - AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced an investment in ViVu, a leader in desktop videoconferencing solutions. The AMD Fusion Fund program makes strategic investments in companies that are developing unique, digital consumer and professional experiences that take advantage of the power of the innovative AMD Fusion Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) products.

From the executive suite to the trading floor, ViVu is a pioneer in the delivery of HD-quality video content to some of today's most popular devices through its patented MXTP™ technologies. Thanks to the scalability, security and extensibility of its solutions, ViVu has established itself as a technology leader in enterprise-class videoconferencing. AMD's investment will provide ViVu with additional resources to help make these technology benefits available to enterprises and small businesses worldwide.

ViVu is developing a new generation of powerful video applications, leveraging AMD Fusion APUs to enable a truly engaging and vivid multimedia experience. Among other projects, AMD and ViVu are collaborating on ViVu's VuRoom videoconferencing solution and a prototype wireless display technology. The prototype wireless display technology, based on industry standards such as 802.11 wireless technology, enables smooth, real-time streaming of a 1080p HD video wirelessly from an AMD-powered notebook PC to one or more network-connected display devices, such as flat panel TVs, tablets or notebooks without requiring any additional hardware.

"The AMD Fusion Fund program was designed not only to invest in promising companies, but also to stimulate ideas around next-generation computing applications," said Manju Hegde, corporate vice president, AMD Fusion Experience Program. "ViVu is a prime example of AMD's commitment to working with emerging developers and established industry leaders to bring new user experiences to life."

AMD Fusion APUs are a new approach to processor design, delivering powerful serial and parallel computing capabilities for HD video, 3D and data-intensive workloads in a single-die processor. By harnessing the amazing visual performance and compute power of AMD's technology, developers are able to create differentiated and compelling computing experiences for notebook and desktop PCs, tablets and consumer electronics devices.

"AMD's investment in ViVu is enabling us to create an environment where we can help shape the future of video collaboration with bold, new applications that can be improved using AMD's technology," said Sudha Valluru, founder and chief executive officer of ViVu. "HD video collaboration can be enabled from nearly every desktop with AMD Fusion APUs, delivering a big improvement from expensive room-based services for enterprise-quality video. Working with AMD also brings us networking opportunities with OEM partners, enterprises and academia worldwide, opening up potential new business channels for us."

ViVu will present a technical presentation and technology demo at the AMD Fusion Developer Summit, to be held June 13-16 in Bellevue, Washington. Summit participants will be able to engage in interactive sessions and hands-on labs to deepen their knowledge of advanced CPU and GPU programmability, and gain a better understanding of how software applications can take full advantage of the parallel processing power of APUs, bringing supercomputer-like performance to everyday computing tasks.
