NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., June 28, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Junior League of Orange County, CA, Inc., (JLOCC) has given its 2010-2011 Shell Award to the Angels Baseball Foundation. Angels Baseball Chairman Dennis Kuhl accepted the award on behalf of the organization.
The Shell Award is presented annually to an outstanding individual or community organization that has supported the JLOCC throughout the year. In the past five years, the Angels Baseball Foundation has contributed nearly $25,000 in in-kind donations to support JLOCC fundraising efforts, including auction items used to raise funds at the Golf Tournament by the Sea, The Christmas Company, and the Spring Fundraiser. The Foundation also has contributed to JLOCC projects including Kids in the Kitchen and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). In addition to the donations of game tickets, MVP packages, memorabilia, and one-of-a-kind experiences for Angels fans, the Foundation contributed directly to the JLOCC mission of improving the community by hosting a Career Day in the Angels Press Room for CASA youth and their advocates.
"We are extremely grateful and appreciative of the recognition given our organization from the Junior League of Orange County," said Angels Chairman Dennis Kuhl. "One of the primary objectives of the Angels, aside from winning a championship, is to make a difference within our community on a year-round basis. It is a goal we focus on day in and day out. At the same time, we have a great deal of respect for the Junior League of Orange County and the impact the group continues to have assisting so many. It is a privilege to assist and support those efforts."
JLOCC's members actively support the community through collaboration with other Orange County nonprofit organizations. This year the JLOCC's efforts are directed on behalf of the community in conjunction with groups including the Second Harvest Food Bank Backpack Program, Crittenton Services Connect Program, Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Reading Program, Olive Crest Kinship Support Services Program, and the League's Bear Hugs and Bear Necessities Program. The JLOCC members also conduct done-in-a-day volunteer projects through Impact Orange County.
