VISTA, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 29, 2011) - McCain Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of intelligent transportation systems, traffic control equipment and parking guidance solutions, today announced the NEMA traffic controller cabinet project award for the Sahara Bus Rapid Transit Project, which details the addition of dedicated bus-only lanes. The contract involves deployment of 33 McCain NEMA traffic cabinets along 12 miles of Sahara Avenue, a major east-west corridor running through the heart of Las Vegas.
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) was awarded $34.4 million in TIGER grants for their Sahara Bus Rapid Transit Project from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The funding was gained due to the project's innovational elements that will help reduce traffic congestion, increase safety, create more than 500 jobs, stimulate the local economy, and reduce harmful emissions. McCain's NEMA cabinets will support project goals through the products' modern, state-of-the-art approach to traffic control, helping minimize traffic incidents and reducing harmful vehicular emissions.
"We're pleased to have been selected as one of the traffic management solutions providers for this project. We're confident McCain's NEMA cabinets will help put Recovery Act funds to beneficial use by supporting the project's economic and environmental goals," said Carol Murphy, account manager, for McCain Inc.
The project's aggressive schedule requires vendors be flexible in both product design and delivery timelines. The close proximity of McCain's U.S. headquarters and manufacturing facilities to Las Vegas facilitated their ability to meet the project's reduced 30-day deadline for deployment of a sample NEMA traffic controller cabinet, helping set precedence for achieving the 2013 project completion goal.
