IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 1, 2011) - Orange County Business Council (OCBC) is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the first annual "Turning Red Tape Into Red Carpet" Awards, honoring Orange County's local governments and special districts that have cut through regulatory red tape in order to stimulate job creation, business growth, and economic prosperity.
Program Awards will be presented at an afternoon reception on November 17, 2011 for achievement in the following categories: Business Retention and Expansion, Responding to Globalization, Sustainable and Green Development, and Real Estate Redevelopment and Reuse. The Partnership Award will be presented to the nominee demonstrating a steadfast commitment to public-private partnerships, and the Leadership Award will be presented to an outstanding leader in the public sector who is advancing economic development in their community.
Nominations are due by September 15, 2011, and may be completed online at www.ocbc.org/redcarpet. The entry fee is $75 per nomination, and there is no limit to the number of entries an agency or jurisdiction may submit.
OCBC's 2011 theme, "Turning Red Tape Into Red Carpet," is not just a rallying cry for fewer government regulations, but an acknowledgement of the good work local government can do in tough times to help business produce, grow and hire. In February OCBC recognized the efforts of local government to cut through red tape and contribute to the region's economic recovery at their Annual Dinner. Honorees included Orange County Transportation Authority, Southern California Association of Governments, County of Orange, Orange County Department of Education, Irvine Ranch Water District, Orange County Sanitation District, Anaheim Union High School District, and the Cities of Anaheim, Orange, Huntington Beach, Tustin, Mission Viejo, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Brea, Fullerton, and Irvine.
