Workday Delivers First Unified Higher Education Administrative Solution in the Cloud

Announces Strategic Design Partners Georgetown University, Cornell University, Brown University, and University of Southern California

PLEASANTON, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 12, 2011) - Workday, Inc., the leader in SaaS-based enterprise solutions for global human resources (HR), payroll, and financial management, today announces a unified administrative solution uniquely designed for higher education. Workday also announces strategic design partners and early customers Georgetown University, Cornell University, Brown University, and University of Southern California (USC).

The administrative systems currently running at most colleges and universities were designed and deployed decades ago and no longer meet the needs of today's modern institutions. Additionally, the cost and complexity of maintaining and upgrading these systems has become untenable at a time when higher education institutions must optimize budget and resources.

Founded in 2005 by PeopleSoft veterans Dave Duffield and Aneel Bhusri, Workday has grown to more than 775 employees and 200 customers. Workday's investment in higher education is in direct response to demand from colleges and universities that want to modernize their administrative solutions by moving their current on-premise legacy environments into the cloud.

Comments on the News
"Partnering with Workday is an integral part of Cornell University's strategy to improve administrative operations while reducing costs," said David Skorton, president, Cornell University. "The Workday solution will provide Cornell's leaders and managers with essential human resources information and greatly reduce the time spent on transaction processing. We believe that Workday's flexibility and responsiveness as a company makes them the right partner for Cornell during this critical time in our strategic advancement."

"Our current systems have limited our ability to innovate. We're very excited because Workday offers the promise and potential we never had," said Charles DeSantis, associate vice president for benefits and chief benefits officer, Georgetown University. "It's a true partnership with Workday, and feels very much like we are hand-in-hand on this."

"Workday will allow Brown University to match financial resources with organizational structures -- something we could never do with our current on-premise systems," said Don Schanck, assistant vice president and controller, Brown University. "The integration of HR and finance will allow us to get this information and, in addition, will help in analyzing and reviewing resource allocation and deciding which objectives are critical to the institution."

"We anticipate that Workday, with its software-as-a-service model, will enable USC to achieve operational efficiencies in the years to come," said Robert Abeles, USC's senior vice president for finance and chief financial officer.

"Workday's investment in higher education is in direct response to the growing demand we're seeing from administrators at colleges and universities that have tired of the maintenance, upgrades, unexpected costs, and other headaches associated with legacy on-premise software," said Aneel Bhusri, Workday co-founder and co-CEO. "By moving their administrative solutions to the cloud, universities like Georgetown, Cornell, Brown, and USC are reducing time and money spent on old, hard-to-use systems while putting the latest technologies into the hands of their faculty and staff."
