CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - Jul 19, 2011) - Today, OfficeDrop announced a new app that will turn any iPhone into a scanner. With OfficeDrop's iPhone app, users can snap a photo of a paper document and scan it directly to the cloud. Once an item is scanned, users can browse the document, apply labels, search text using OfficeDrop's Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, share and access documents from anywhere with OfficeDrop's cloud filing cabinet. Also available for iPad and Android, OfficeDrop now provides service to a full portfolio of mobile devices for users. The app can now be downloaded through the iTunes Store.
Businesses can use the OfficeDrop iPhone app to make it easier to capture and share documents on the road. For example, an insurance agent responding to accident claims in the field can immediately take pictures of registrations, drivers' licenses and contracts and have them upload as text searchable PDF documents within minutes. The agent can also take pictures of damages as well as the scene of the accident and submit those photos to folders for his team at the office to access immediately. This scenario works both ways, as the agent has the option to access their entire OfficeDrop filing cabinet on the road with their iPhone by uploading files from their computer onto their OfficeDrop account. With OfficeDrop's search on the iPhone, any file is easy to find and available in an instant from anywhere.
"We're changing the way people collect and share information on the go," explained OfficeDrop CEO Prasad Thammineni. "By using the iPhone as a powerful scanning device, our users can share documents with teams in seconds, and search all of their items in the cloud, regardless of their location. OfficeDrop is making remote working easier than ever."
The OfficeDrop iPhone app is free to download, and connects with OfficeDrop's cloud filing cabinet. The free version of OfficeDrop cloud filing system gives users 1 GB of storage, 50 pages of text-searchable scans per month and will produce the top three search results. Other key features include:
- Search: Documents become text-searchable once they're uploaded using OCR technology.
- Labels: Files can be labeled with keywords for easy sorting and retrieval.
- Compatibility: Works on your Windows PC, your browser, your Android and iPad, and now, your iPhone.
- Security: As with other OfficeDrop apps and services, all files sent through the system using state-of-the art encryption.
- Scan multiple pages, create multi-page PDFs, turn photos in your iPhone's photo gallery into PDFs.
- Smart mobile uploading, if the iPhone does not have network connectivity the scan will be automatically uploaded when the internet becomes available.
