Deanie Ip Wins Best Actress Award at Venice Film Festival

Wins Award for Role in Bona's Film, A Simple Life

BEIJING, Sept. 14, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Deanie Ip, the lead actress of Bona's film, A Simple Life, won the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress at the 68th Venice Film Festival held on September 11, 2011. A Simple Life was co-produced by Bona Film Group (Nasdaq:BONA) and Focus Films, and directed by Ann Hui. The film tells the story of an aging house servant who is cared for by her employer, played by Andy Lau. Besides A Simple Life, three other Bona films, Gallants, Hello Mr. Tree, and Bodyguards and Assassins have received prestigious film awards this year.

Bona Film Group's summer season films, including Treasure Inn, Overheard 2, and Source Code, have achieved approximately RMB 350 million in total box office receipts as of September 4, 2011. Moreover, Overheard 2 netted RMB 203 million box office receipts in a mere 18 days of distribution, going on to become the best-selling summer holiday film in 2011. The film also broke the RMB 128 million box office record among all Chinese "cops and robbers" films held by another Bona film, Triple Tap. Bona also started distributing the American film, Source Code, in late August, which achieved RMB 43 million during the first week of distribution. Bona's 2011 summer holiday success, based on total box office receipts, is the best result among private Chinese film companies, and the second best among all film companies in China, following the state-owned firm, China Film Group.

Bona's CEO Yu Dong commented, "As the summer season draws to a close, we are pleased with the commercial and artistic success of many of our films. This year is not only an important year for the growing Chinese film industry, but we also see it as a turning point for Bona, after listing on the NASDAQ, as we begin to see success arising from our strategy of pursing a balance between artistic quality and commercial success. In the future, Bona will continue to produce big commercial films like Flying Swords of Dragon Gate and The Great Magician, while also supporting small to medium budget films, such as this year's A Simple Life and Hello Mr. Tree. This will be the core of our business: diversity of films and professionalism in distribution."
