NORTH OLMSTED, OH--(Marketwire - Sep 23, 2011) - Moen Incorporated, the 2010 EPA WaterSense® Manufacturer Partner of the Year, continues its efforts of protecting the future of the nation's resources by supporting teams that are participating in the 2011 Solar Decathlon hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The unique two-year student competition, culminating in Washington, D.C. from September 23 through October 2, 2011, challenges collegiate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.
Three teams, including Team New Jersey: Rutgers - The State University of New Jersey and New Jersey Institute of Technology; Tidewater Virginia: Old Dominion University and Hampton University; and Team Canada: The University of Calgary, included Moen fixtures in their homes based on water savings, design aesthetics and affordability.
"Moen is dedicated to developing thoughtfully designed products that combine water efficiency and high-end styling -- all while maintaining the quality experience that users have come to expect," said Kevin Campbell, director of marketing, Moen wholesale. "We're thrilled to have our products recognized by each of the teams and be included in their homes."
Modern-styled products were chosen to complement each of the home's contemporary designs, including Moen's 90°™ kitchen and bathroom faucets and showering products; Level™ kitchen faucet; Excaliber® stainless steel kitchen sink; and various bath accessories. Each Moen lavatory faucet has received the EPA WaterSense label, meaning that they flow at a reduced rate of 1.5 gallons per minute (gpm) versus standard 2.2 gpm for a savings of up to 32 percent. Additionally, Moen offers a variety of showering products that are WaterSense-labeled with flow rates of 2.0 gpm or less -- all while providing a quality experience.
