EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 29, 2011) - The Board of Directors of the Canadian Obesity Network-Réseau canadien en obésité (CON-RCO) is calling for committed obesity experts in the public and private sectors to consider serving on the organization's board.
CON-RCO was founded in 2006 to link the research, policy and practice communities to advance the development and delivery of effective obesity prevention and treatment solutions. The network's core strategies focus on addressing the stigma associated with excess weight, changing the way policy makers and health professionals approach obesity, and improving access to prevention and treatment resources. Currently, more than 6,000 professionals in Canada are members of the network. CON-RCO is hosted by the University of Alberta, and is based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB.
CON-RCO is committed to pursuing three outcome-oriented strategic goals:
- Address the social stigma associated with obesity.
- Change the way professionals think about obesity and interact with obese individuals.
- Improve access to obesity prevention, treatment and management.
The CON-RCO board is comprised of individuals from the public and private sectors who contribute their obesity expertise and who are committed advancing CON-RCO's goals.
Board Application/Nomination Process:
- 3 CON-RCO members must be signatory to each application.
- Candidates for the board must have at least three nominations from CON-RCO members.
- Applicants or nominees must complete and submit the application form by October 14, 2011.
- Applications must be submitted to: cook@obesitynetwork.ca.
- CON-RCO Governance Committee will review nominations and make recommendations to the Board.
- Short-listed candidates are contacted and references are checked.
- Nominations are presented and ratified by CON-RCO membership electronically.
