WASHINGTON, Sept. 29, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GuideStar— the leading source of nonprofit information—today launched the 2011 GuideStar Directory of Nonprofit Contractors, the first and only report of its kind. Compiled from the Forms 990 that nonprofits filed with the IRS for fiscal year 2009, the Directory details the businesses that provided services to nonprofits, the nonprofits that purchased the services, and the amounts spent on them.
"Every nonprofit organization that has to fill out a Form 990 must list up to five contractors to whom they paid at least $100,000 during the filing year, so we had a wealth of data to pull from for this report," said Chuck McLean, vice president of research at GuideStar and author of the Directory. "We hope that the 2011 GuideStar Directory of Nonprofit Contractors is helpful for those nonprofits that want to find out what kinds of consultants might fit their needs, or for those consultants that want to find the best fit in the nonprofit sector for their services."
Numbering 3,904 pages and provided as a searchable PDF, the Directory lists more than 13,000 businesses that provided services to 14,000 nonprofits, which spent a total of $34 billion for those services. The report contains two sections: contractors by service type, listing each contractor's name, address and contract totals; and contractors by service type and client location, which lists within each state the type of service, contractor name, client name, city, and state, and contract size.
