McCain Collaborates With NEMA on NTCIP(TM) Interoperability Showcase at ITS World Congress in Orlando, Florida

Scheduled NTCIP Demonstration Will Exemplify the Importance of Traffic Product Interoperability

ROSSLYN, VA and VISTA, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 4, 2011) - McCain Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of intelligent transportation systems, traffic control equipment and parking guidance solutions, today announced their partnership and involvement with the National Electrical Manufacturers Association's (NEMA) NTCIP Interoperability Showcase. McCain and several other transportation management product manufacturers will present the NTCIP Interoperability Showcase at the 18th World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in Orlando, Florida, October 17-20, 2011.

The NTCIP Interoperability Showcase is a full-scale demonstration to display the interoperability of commercially available NTCIP-compliant products. NTCIP standards define the communications protocols used for the remote command and control of surface highway transportation devices, typically between central control software applications at traffic management centers, and various field device types, such as traffic signal controllers, dynamic message signs, roadway weather information systems, and others.

NTCIP device interoperability will be demonstrated using a private wireless network for connectivity. Unlike other interoperability demonstrations, or "plug-fests," this demonstration will be "distributed" across the entire Orlando Convention Center, and each of the 13 NEMA-member manufacturers of NTCIP products will have their own products in individual trade show booths. Connectivity will be demonstrated to the World Congress attendees, and participants will be able to select and change the functions of remote devices that are across the aisle or across the room.

As one of the 13 NEMA-member manufacturing participants, McCain will present its NTCIP compliant Omni eX® intersection control software, which provides comprehensive, signalized intersection control for any ATC compliant traffic controller. McCain's ATC product suite includes both 2070 and NEMA platforms, which have been deployed nationally and internationally, including San Francisco and Corona, Calif., as well as Canada.

"We're excited to take part in this demonstration," said Kleinjan Deetlefs, vice president of engineering for McCain Inc. "This showcase will further support the importance of NTCIP compliance and interoperability, letting traffic professionals see the technology in action."

NTCIP is the predominant family of communications protocols used for interoperable management of surface transportation devices in the U.S., and is being specified worldwide because of its flexible design, open development, and extensibility for unique features and functions.

The purpose of the NTCIP Interoperability Showcase during the World Congress on ITS is to demonstrate an environment with different central systems controlling the same or different field devices. NTCIP interoperability has been demonstrated previously, but this showcase is on a larger scale, will use "pick and choose" pairing of controlling software and devices, and uses a flexible "distributed" network approach for this trade show venue.
