PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - Oct 5, 2011) - As the Harry Potter saga comes to a close with the release of the final film in the saga, several years after fans of the book series read how the story ended, Hollywood's eyes are on where the next Harry Potter will come from. A world-class scientist, who is taking his shot at the title, believes it could literally come from anywhere and anyone.
"If our recent history has taught us anything, it's that a good story is a good story no matter its origins," said Dr. Rene Daniel, a renowned research scientist responsible for advances in the study of HIV, who is trying his own luck with a fantasy novel about the mythology of the ancient Egyptian underworld. "J. K. Rowling was a schoolteacher who was turned down by literary agents and publishers for years, before her Harry Potter books saw the light of day. John Grisham was a legal clerk who wrote "The Firm" on the bus as he commuted to work in the mornings. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were barely out of high school when they crafted a series of comic strips about a character called Superman back in the late 1930s. So who is anyone to say where the next great story will come from?"
Daniel said he was not driven to write his novel, "Spear of Seth" (www.thothfantasyquests.com), by his background in medical research. Instead, it was his lifelong interest in ancient Egypt that sparked his passion to put his story on paper.
"Just like Rowling based her world on the mythology of wizards and sorcerers from centuries ago, I've based my story in the mythology of the ancient Egyptian underworld and the true history of Dr. John Dee, a noted English mathematician, astronomer, astrologer and consultant to Queen Elizabeth I in the 1500s. He devoted much of his life to the study of alchemy, divination and Hermetic philosophy, and he wrote a book that supposedly contained cryptic messages that may have revealed the location of the entrance to the Egyptian underworld. Using that as a launching pad, I created a story that brought that mythology into the modern world."
