Yesterday, at Toronto's prestigious Design Exchange & Museum, Sanofi Pasteur hosted the INTANZA® Experience, a successful flu awareness and vaccination clinic with the help of interior designers Colin, Justin and Cheryl from HGTV Canada's hit show Colin and Justin's Home Heist. The design trio drew in the crowds with just under 150 INTANZA® vaccinations given.
INTANZA® is the first flu vaccine with a micro needle designed to provide patients with a hassle-free, minimally invasive vaccination experience. Its needle is 10 times smaller than a traditional flu vaccine and only enters the surface of the skin, resulting in less muscle pain. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recently recommended INTANZA® for the prevention of influenza in Canada.
Cheryl Torrenueva, tasked to design the INTANZA® Experience, demonstrated her designer flare, in a day all about celebrating just that: "Playing off the sleek design of the INTANZA® vaccine, I wanted to create a comfortable yet modern space, one that was both practical yet also luxurious," said Cheryl.
"We were thrilled to participate in the INTANZA® Experience with the team. Usually, there's nothing fun about getting a vaccine, but the sleek design of the vaccine turns it into a totally different experience. It really supports what Justin and I have been saying all these years – good design impacts a person's overall experience in a space," said Colin. "Cheryl's design was really on point, creating a positive mood, with bright green accents, sleek lines and a VIP vibe, making it more comfortable and inviting for people to get vaccinated against the flu. We had a lot of fun – and we also learned a thing or two about flu prevention!" added Justin.
The influenza virus is a highly contagious infectious disease transmitted through the air or through hands contaminated with droplets projected by an infected person who coughs or sneezes. It can cause high fever, cough and intense fatigue, and can keep you from going about your day-to-day activities. An infected person can be contagious for 24 hours before symptoms appear and up to seven days after the onset of symptoms.
"Increased flu awareness and prevention with Canadians is really important because many underestimate the effects of the flu. The flu can have serious consequences, and now that there are more options available there is no excuse not to get vaccinated unless there are medical contraindications, which is uncommon" added Dr. Brian Aw, medical expert.
