BELLEVUE, WA--(Marketwire - Nov 2, 2011) - Limeade today announced the immediate availability of the Limeade Open App & Device Platform, an open development platform with public application program interfaces (APIs) that enables integration with more than 20 commercially-available fitness devices and apps. Limeade is a corporate wellness company that builds happy, healthy, high-performance workforces.
The Limeade Open App & Device Platform addresses strong employer and health plan demand for easy, fun, social, and externally-validated (versus self-reported) activity tracking and self-improvement solutions. This new functionality extends Limeade's existing comprehensive wellness and incentive management services with a wide array of new consumer-quality fitness apps and devices. Limeade has previously created similar APIs for biometric screenings, incentives, and other features of comprehensive wellness programs.
In addition to Limeade's proprietary mobile apps, the Platform supports FitLinxx; Nike+ products, such as iPod Nano™, Nike+ Sportsband™, Nike+ Shoe™, iPhone™, and iPod Touch™; and RunKeeper. Limeade will also support (indirectly through RunKeeper) the 17 Activity Tracking Apps currently supported by the RunKeeper HealthGraph API, including FitBit Tracker™, Swimsense™, Jog Log™, and more. Users simply connect these fitness apps or devices (some of which are free, some of which cost extra) to their Limeade accounts. Fitness activities are synchronized automatically with Limeade social challenges, and incentive and rewards programs.
"The Limeade integration with the FitLinxx ActiPed™ activity monitor allows individuals to automatically track and upload their all-day activity data wirelessly at work or at home," said Dave Monahan, president and CEO of FitLinxx, Inc. "We're very excited because Limeade and their Limeade Alliance Members serve more than 50 million Americans with programs that help them improve their health and well-being, which fits well with our total population approach to engaging people in a more active lifestyle."
"We're glad to align with a leading-edge corporate wellness company focused on making things easier, more fun, and more delightful for the workforce," said Bill Day, Platform Evangelist for the RunKeeper Health Graph. "Extending the Health Graph into the business world through Limeade will be a fun new way to encourage people to get healthier."
"Self-tracking has been shown to help people improve. By integrating with popular activity apps and devices, we've made tracking easier and more fun for Limeade users. Employers and health plans don't want to miss out on the current wave of wellness innovation. Having an approach that is open to the latest apps and devices -- now and in the future -- is appealing to them," said David Reeves, Limeade Director of Product Management. Reeves is also the co-organizer of the Seattle Quantified Self chapter.
"This is not about just doing more, it is about making wellness easier and more fun for Limeade clients and end users. 'Easy' and 'fun' are game-changing concepts in health and wellness. Limeade ties together innovative solutions from across the health, productivity and well-being spectrum -- from game-like social wellness challenges to chronic care management, and more -- for the enterprise health and wellness market," said Henry Albrecht, Limeade CEO.
