JESSUP, MD--(Marketwire - Nov 17, 2011) - A panel of 44 architects and specification specialists convened by Architectural Products magazine recently selected Tate® In-Floor Active Chilled Beams as a 2011 Product Innovation Award (PIA) recipient.
The energy-efficient perimeter heating and cooling solution received honorable mention in the annual competition that, according to Construction Business Media, LLC, Editorial Director Jim Crockett, "recognizes products, materials and systems innovation that leads commercial and institutional design to new heights." The PIA program awards manufacturers based on a product's attributes, functionality and/or performance beyond industry standards.
Introduced in June, In-floor Active Chilled Beams combine the benefits of underfloor air distribution (UFAD) with the efficiencies of water heating and cooling. Water pipes pass chilled and hot water through a heat exchanger or "beam," which is then capable of heating or cooling the air in the space. The beams bring chilled water under the floor to cool or heat air directly at the perimeter of a building, where heat loss and heat gain can significantly impact energy use.
"We're proud to receive this award, because it affirms the innovative approach we take to product development," said Bill Reynolds, marketing and technical director at Tate. "In-floor Active Chilled Beams provide the energy savings and capacity of an overhead chilled beam, while avoiding many of the concerns, including damage from leaking water lines and latent loads producing condensate."
Tate In-floor Active Chilled Beams, along with other PIA winners, will be featured in a special report in the November 2011 issue of Architectural Products.
