PASADENA, CA--(Marketwire - Jan 27, 2012) - CALSTART's President and CEO hailed today's vote by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), calling it "historic" and a major milestone for the clean transportation technology industry.
"The California Air Resources Board (CARB) vote today was truly historic and will encourage accelerated growth of the clean transportation technology industry," said CALSTART President and CEO John Boesel.
"The suite of strong pro-clean car policies adopted by the Air Board today were made possible because of the tremendous technological progress made by the industry over the last 20 years, and because of the potential going forward," Boesel said.
The CARB voted today to approve the following four major policies focused on improving public health and protecting the climate:
- Passenger car standards from 2017 to 2025 that will result in a fleet average of 54.5 miles per gallon;
- A Zero Emission Vehicle mandate resulting in 15% of new cars sold in California in 2025 have zero tailpipe emissions. Compliance can be partially met through production of cars that operate a portion of time of zero emissions;
- Strengthening of smog forming emissions rules for passenger cars; and
- A general policy framework requiring that the large oil companies provide financing for clean and low carbon vehicle infrastructure (aka refueling or recharging stations).
