COLORADO SPRINGS, CO--(Marketwire - Feb 3, 2012) - The IPSO Alliance completed a banner year in 2011, adding nine new members in the second half of the year, bringing total membership to almost 60 companies that are leading the development of IP technology for the Internet of Things.
The Alliance welcomes Consumers Energy, Econocom, Instituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB), IOTA Computing, Maxim Integrated Products, Motorola Mobility, Smart Dutch, Symphony Networks, and Telecommunication Metrology Center of MIIT (TMC). Representing China, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States, these organizations are leaders in advocating the use of IP in Smart Objects worldwide.
"Standardization and interoperability are of major importance in the European utility branch, a need which creates confidence for Smart Dutch that IPv6-based technologies will prevail as the winning smart meter technology in Europe," states Gert van Kempen, Managing Director of Smart Dutch, one of the first Dutch companies to join the Alliance.
"The Managed Home Solutions division of Motorola Mobility is focused on developing next-generation connected home services," said Jim Hunter, Technical Staff Fellow, Motorola Mobility. "Motorola recognizes IP as an important driver in the proliferation of smart objects; we've joined the IPSO Alliance to guide the development of standards for IP objects and to extend our leading role in the evolution of the connected home."
During 2011 the Alliance rejuvenated their interoperability testing program, and started the development of a strong social media campaign and the launch of a new quarterly newsletter. IPSO also seated a new Technical Advisory Board, headed by Jari Arkko of Ericsson, and launched a Smart Energy Committee led by Mike Dow of Freescale and Lizardo Hernandez of Landis+Gyr.
Publication of a quarterly newsletter began in December. Providing information about the latest news in the world of embedded IP, the Internet of Things, and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology, the newsletter shares the latest innovations from IPSO member companies and the industry. "This newsletter will go far in keeping the industry informed of upcoming trade shows and conferences, as well as current projects the Alliance is working on as a whole," said Mary Miller of Sigma Designs, co-chair of IPSO's marketing committee.
