LANCASTER, Calif., March 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- R. Rex Parris, Mayor of Lancaster and Managing Partner of the R. Rex Parris Law Firm, announced today that he has prostate cancer.
"Last week, my doctors notified me that I am suffering an aggressive but very treatable form of prostate cancer. During a routine checkup, my PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels were found to be high, which can be an indicator of prostate cancer. After some additional testing was conducted, the doctor confirmed that I have an early stage, but aggressive form of prostate cancer. Fortunately, my cancer was caught in time, and the cancer has not spread beyond the prostate," said Parris.
The good news is that with modern treatment, prostate cancer is no longer a death sentence. "I want to inform the residents of Lancaster and my legal colleagues that I am under the care of a first rate physician for the treatment of the cancer. I will begin an intensive treatment program starting next week and my doctors have told me that I can expect a full recovery. Except for the days that I am receiving treatment, I do not expect to miss any work. I am fortunate that the cancer was caught in the early stages and expect a full recovery," added Parris.
Mayor Parris plans to use his situation as an opportunity to educate and drive awareness about prostate cancer, which he believes will result in saving more lives in the future.
