RIBER signs a R&D agreement
and the sale of a MBE system with IMEC
Bezons, March 13th, 2012 - 7am - RIBER, the global leader for molecular beam epitaxy, is announcing that it has entered into a partnership with IMEC, the world number one for nanoelectronics and nanotechnology research.
Located in Louvain, Belgium, IMEC is one of the world's leading centers for microelectronics and nanotechnology R&D, employing around 1,900 researchers and engineers. IMEC works with the main semiconductor manufacturers around the world, as well as most of the equipment manufacturers and electronic design firms.
IMEC is focused on research and development for the next generations of micro- and nanoelectronic technologies, corresponding to the industry's needs within three to ten years: new ultra quick microprocessors, high-capacity memory, semiconductor miniaturization.
Under the agreement signed at the start of the year, RIBER recently delivered an ISA300, an innovative automated MBE system, SEMI standard compliant and designed for treating 300mm semiconductor wafers. Alongside this, a research program is being rolled out for integrating and developing MBE within the silicon production line in order to evaluate ISA300 system as industrial solution for producing advanced CMOS devices.
This agreement highlights RIBER's strategic commitment to being part of the development of new silicon nanoelectronics materials and techniques and their industrialisation. It also confirms its strategic ambition to ultimately become an equipment manufacturer in the silicon production sector.
