SEATTLE, April 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Blue Star Gas educated automotive professionals on the advantages of running fleets on clean affordable propane autogas at the 61st annual Vehicle Maintenance Management Conference in Shoreline, Wash., last week. Panels featuring propane autogas were a natural choice for the conference because the fuel is a clean, affordable, domestically-produced alternative to gasoline - and it's already powering over 200,000 American vehicles.
Blue Star Gas is the flagship West Coast fuel provider of the national Alliance AutoGas network, helping fleets switch from gasoline to propane autogas. President Jeff Stewart and Marketing Director Darren Engle participated in a Tuesday morning panel titled, "Propane Autogas: Alternative Fuel's Best Kept Secrets: Frequently Un-Asked Questions and Answers You Need to Know." The panel featured expertise from Chris Case of the Washington Department of Transportation, as well as Alliance AutoGas partners American Alternative Fuel President Matt Sgambettera and Carburetor Connection President Alex Racz. Blue Star also showcased an autogas-powered Dodge Charger and Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser.
"Autogas has an important part to play in diversifying our nation's transportation fuel options, so it's vital that the vehicle maintenance and fleet industries are knowledgeable about this affordable clean fuel," said Darren Engle, recently named chairman of the Propane Education and Research Council's Research and Technology Development Working Group. Engle also participated in another propane autogas panel, discussing how autogas can cut costs for fleets while also reducing harmful pollutants.
Fleets using autogas currently save more than $1 per gallon compared to gasoline. And because autogas burns cleaner, many autogas-powered fleets report reduced maintenance needs and increased engine life. Autogas is the third most widely used fuel in the world, and 90 percent of the U.S. autogas supply is made in America.
"The high cost of fuel is a growing concern for the transportation industry," said Jeff Stewart. "Autogas is a clean-burning, cost-effective, American-made fuel that's widely available, now. It's simply more affordable than other alternative fuel options. And as part of the Alliance AutoGas complete program, we help fleets easily switch to autogas by coordinating every step of the conversion and fueling process, including installing an onsite autogas station at no upfront cost."
Held at the Shoreline Community College Professional Automotive Training Center March 27-29, the Vehicle Maintenance Management Conference brings together mechanics, equipment operators, students and industry experts from around the country to explore crucial fleet management and new technology topics.
