DALLAS, April 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IP Navigation Group (IPNav) announced that Phil Hartstein has been appointed vice president and portfolio manager. Hartstein was most recently with a patent investment fund, where his primary responsibilities included originating investment opportunities. Prior to that, Hartstein held senior roles in a patent brokerage firm and managed patent acquisition and analytics groups for a global IP consulting firm.
"Phil joins IPNav on the heels of several multi-billion dollar patent transactions that have shaken the industry awake and caused companies, governments and universities around the world to seek our guidance in monetizing their patents," commented Erich Spangenberg, chairman of IPNav. "Phil adds value in two key areas. First, he has a proven track record of working with patent owners to identify valuable patents in their portfolio. Second, he has the reputation and, more important, the credibility required to successfully execute patent monetization campaigns. Both are important for IPNav as we strengthen our management infrastructure to meet this growing market demand."
"There is no question that IPNav has a demonstrated track record of achieving value for patent owners, but it's their commitment to understanding what the IP marketplace will look like three to five years from now that I find exciting," adds Hartstein. "The reality is, this marketplace is still evolving and where most firms struggle to just keep up, IPNav is sitting behind the curtain on the most exciting patent monetization opportunities I have seen. In turn, this provides value creation solutions for small and large companies, inventors and universities to monetize patents that would otherwise sit idle in their portfolios."
IPNav is headquartered in Dallas with offices in Dublin, Paris, Shanghai and Tel Aviv. Hartstein has spent the past decade of his career working with patent owners in the Silicon Valley and will be opening IPNav's Palo Alto office.
