DURHAM, NC--(Marketwire - Apr 24, 2012) - MetaMetrics®, developer of The Lexile® Framework for Reading, announced today that the following publishers signed on to provide Lexile® measures for their books in the first quarter of 2012. Lexile measures offer valuable information about a book's text complexity that helps readers select fiction and nonfiction titles based on their unique reading ability and goals.

- Fast Pencil (http://www.fastpencil.com)
- DK Publishing (http://us.dk.com)
- Pinata Publishing (http://www.kiskalore.com)
- Candlewick Press (http://www.candlewick.com)
- Learning A-Z (http://www.learninga-z.com)
- The Child's World (http://childsworld.com)
A book receives a Lexile measure when MetaMetrics analyzes the complete text using propriety software that evaluates its various dimensions. Lexile measures evaluate how complex a text will likely be for a reader to comprehend so that the reader can be matched with texts that best complement his or her unique ability level and reading goals. Lexile measures range from below 200L, for beginning-reader text, to above 1700L, for more advanced text.
"With many students not graduating college-and career-ready, it is imperative that families and educators understand the reading demands students will face in the postsecondary world so that they can better prepare students for success in their academic and professional pursuits," stated Malbert Smith, President and co-founder of MetaMetrics. "We applaud our new publishing partners for recognizing and appreciating the unique value that Lexile measures offer in evaluating text complexity."
Books that have been assigned Lexile measures are available on MetaMetrics' free "Find a Book" search utility. "Find a Book" lets readers build custom book lists and locate their selections at the public library. With more than 130,000 fiction and nonfiction titles and over 200 publishers, "Find a Book" enables educators and families to utilize the Lexile Framework and match readers with appropriate text.
The Lexile Framework is a unique tool for accurately matching readers with text. Unlike other measurement systems, the Lexile Framework evaluates reading ability and growth based on actual assessment results, rather than generalized age or grade levels. Lexile measures help teachers, librarians and parents find books, articles and other resources within a reader's recommended Lexile range: 100L below to 50L above his or her Lexile measure. Reading materials within this optimal Lexile range will challenge the individual's reading ability, while still maintaining interest and learning.
Recognized globally as the most widely used reading metric, tens of millions of Lexile measures are reported annually from reading assessments and programs. For more information, visit www.Lexile.com.
