SAN JOSE, Calif., May 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. ("Ubiquiti" or the "Company"), a next generation communications technology company, announced that on May 18, the company filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, seeking a temporary restraining order and permanent injunction to stop the illegal counterfeiting of its products by a counterfeiting ring directed from Miami, Florida.
The lawsuit names as defendants Florida-based Kozumi USA Corp., a previously terminated Ubiquiti distributor, its owner Shao Wei (William) Hsu, and his spouse Lilia Kung. According to the complaint, Hsu engaged in intellectual property theft, illegal manufacturing and sale of counterfeit Ubiquiti Networks products and fraudulent registration of Ubiquiti trademarks and attempted extortion thereupon. In addition, the complaint asserts that Hsu has recently spread malicious and false rumors about Ubiquiti in an attempt to obstruct Ubiquiti's brand protection efforts and harm its shareholders.
The Company also submitted evidence to the court that Hsu is trying to enlist Asim Sajwani, owner of XConcepts Corporation, a previously terminated Ubiquiti distributor, to join his obstruction attempt against Ubiquiti. Mr. Sajwani's distributorship was terminated in 2011 when Ubiquiti discovered that he was responsible for the illegal re-export of Ubiquiti products into Iran in violation of Ubiquiti's distribution agreement. The Company had obtained a default judgment in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against XConcepts for certain unpaid debt owed by XConcepts.
Ubiquiti views the lawsuit against Hsu and his counterfeiting ring as a significant milestone in its worldwide campaign to vigorously protect its intellectual property and its customers.
