Perceptive Pixel Announces PetroTouch for Schlumberger's Petrel* Seismic to Simulation Software

Plug-in Brings True Multi-Touch Interactivity to Popular Geophysical Software

NEW YORK, June 3, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Perceptive Pixel, the leading provider of advanced user interface solutions, today announced the general availability of its exciting new oil and gas software at EAGE 2012, the largest and most comprehensive geoscience event in the world. Perceptive Pixel's PetroTouch plug-in for Schlumberger's Petrel, the industry-leading seismic interpretation software, is offered to Petrel users worldwide via Schlumberger's Ocean store, and provides the geoscientific community with greater ease-of-use and improved productivity as they search for new oil & gas reserves. The plug-in specifically targets two workflows within Petrel: seismic interpretation and well correlation, and supports intuitive gestures and multi-touch with active stylus.

In the conventional Petrel user interface, some workflow steps require several mouse and keyboard interactions to complete. Now with PetroTouch, these steps are simplified in many ways. For example, you are able to interact with the 3D camera by using simple and familiar pan, zoom, rotate, and double-tap gestures directly on screen. The PetroTouch plug-in replaces many of these sequences with single gestures and context-sensitive slide-in menus that put common commands and actions at users' fingertips, thereby increasing user focus, boosting productivity, and mitigating repetitive strain injuries.

The PetroTouch plug-in is sold as a bundle with Perceptive Pixel's 27" projected capacitive (pro-cap) multi-touch desktop display or is available separately to existing display users. The Perceptive Pixel 27"multi-touch display detects an unlimited number of touch points and is paired with the company's active stylus for simultaneous pen and touch interactivity.

Bob Pette, COO at Perceptive Pixel adds: "We are excited to be working with Schlumberger to bring multi-touch and simultaneous stylus interactivity to Petrel users worldwide. Day in and day out, Petrel users analyze and interpret extremely large seismic data sets. The multi-touch and active stylus functionality available in PetroTouch provides both speed and accuracy for a more natural, intuitive and productive experience performing many of the scientific workflows in Petrel."

PetroTouch will be available for demonstration in Schlumberger's Ocean booth (# 640) at EAGE 2012.
