WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Jun 14, 2012) - The National Risk Retention Association Annual Conference, October 9-11 in Washington, DC, will focus on critical issues in healthcare and regulatory challenges to risk retention group operating authority. Defending the Industry for 25 Years will be the conference theme as NRRA celebrates its 25th anniversary.
"Risk Retention Groups have grown into an essential source of liability insurance with more than 250 companies and total premium volume of more than $2.5 billion, but the industry continues to face major challenges. This year's conference will help set the agenda to strengthen and grow the industry over the next 25 years," said Sanford Elsass, NRRA Chairman.
There is considerable uncertainty over how the federal government will continue to legislate healthcare based on the Supreme Court ruling on Obama Care and its impact one way or the other on RRGs in healthcare -- more than 100 companies. The industry awaits a report from the new Federal Insurance Office that is expected to deal with proposals to improve the system of insurance regulation in the U.S. Some states continue to impose registration requirements and fees on RRGs in violation of the Liability Risk Retention Act. These are among the critical issues that will be debated at the Conference by industry leaders with regulatory and legislative spokespersons.
The Conference will open with major sessions on Medical Professional Liability and State Legislative Challenges followed by a panel on What Constitutes Liability in Today's Healthcare Context and a session devoted to dealing with the outcome of the Supreme Court decision on Obama Care. New battlefronts that may emerge from the Federal Insurance Office report and the ongoing drive for legislation to incorporate an enforcement mechanism in the Liability Risk Retention Act will be on the agenda.
Reinsurance, risk management, claims, litigation, financial stability, marketing and other operational topics vital to RRGs will be covered by experts over the three-day meeting.
The Conference will be held at The Ritz Carlton Pentagon City, Washington, DC. Attendees can register online at www.riskretention.org.
